Can I customize my trips? Yes, that is our specialty! See our Custom Trip page for more information on private custom tour options. Also, if you have any specific requests regarding a scheduled trip you have booked, just let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate!
What sets Latitude apart from other tour companies? Our adventurous spirit. Our passion for the areas we visit. Our local knowledge and connections with the community. Our own unique backgrounds and experiences. Our engaging personalities. Our creativity. And, our desire to avoid the 'cookie cutter,' so that no two trips are the same! All of these factors are part of the equation when it comes to providing you with the most memorable and unique experience possible. Check out our About Us page to find out more.
What do you do to insure my safety? At Latitude, safety is a top priority. We strive to provide an adventurous and exciting experience but we also want you to feel safe and comfortable. We choose our routes, and our guides, with safety in mind. Our staff has decades of experience guiding people through urban & more rural environments, and we employ this know-how when it comes to insuring that all of our guests finish the ride feeling happier and healthier than when we started. All Latitude staff has been well trained in traffic safety, adept at employing strategies we've developed for biking with groups in congested areas; so that when in traffic, the group flows through in the safest possible manner. We also employ a second (or, even, third) guide to ride in the back of the group when necessary.
Are you an insured operation? All staff and participants on are insured throughout all of our trips and events. Our League of American Bicyclist safety training for all staff members is one more added precaution, and has been endorsed by our insurer.
How do I book a trip? Scheduled Day Trips, Special Event Trips, and Overnight Trips can all be booked through their respective description pages. You can also find a full schedule and book scheduled tours through our calendar page. To make a reservation for a custom/private tour, email with the date(s) of the tour and any specific requests you may, and we will provide a quote.
What happens if it rains? For scheduled Day Trips & Special Events, we will not force you to ride in the rain. If there looks to be rain on the day of the ride, just check in by phone or email, and we can make a determination from there. There are times when people choose to ride in the rain, especially if it's only a little wet. So, if we have enough participants who are willing to ride, we're up for it! But, if you choose to cancel due to rain, we will happily issue a full refund (or do our best to reschedule, if you choose to do so). For Overnight Trips, see specific terms and conditions for each ride.
What is your cancellation policy? For scheduled or private day rides, if you cancel more than 72 hours in advance, you will receive a full refund. Because we prepare the proper number of guides and bikes based on how many people sign up in advance (and because our tours can fill up), we do not issue refunds for last second cancellations. Please contact us as soon as possible if you have to cancel your tours. (For overnight rides, see policies laid out for that specific ride.)
Where are you located? We are located a few blocks away from the true geographic center of New York City, or by public transit, a few blocks away from the Jefferson Street L Subway station. This is where our bikes are stored and where some trips begin. However, we are a mobile operation so many tours will meet in other locations.
Do you provide/require helmets? We do provide helmets and they are required on all rides. Our goal is to provide the safest experience possible.
What if I want to bring my own bike? It is OK to bring your own bike. If you do, please be sure that it is in good working order. Bringing your own bike will get you $15 off the price of a day tour; inquire by email for discounts on specific overnight trips.
Is a Latitude trip safe for kids? Our trips are a great activity for teens and they are very family friendly. When kids are younger than 10 or 12, we do like to be sure they are competent and comfortable on a bike. We’ve seen kids as young as 7 or 8 ride with ease on even our more challenging excursions but they must confident riders. The trips are certainly safe and relaxed but there are also a lot of distractions, whether riding in the city or beyond. We like to be sure all riders can ride safely under these conditions. For more information on customized family rides, see our family-friendly inspiration page.
What should I bring on a Latitude Trip? Not much! Water is provided, and there will be plenty of opportunities for food stops along the way. It is a good idea to bring a little bit of cash for food. Having a camera with you can certainly be nice. Wearing comfortable and weather appropriate clothing is recommended. Clothing doesn’t necessarily have to be sporty; just something you’d wear for a day of being out and about. If needed, there will be a place to leave extra belongings at the start of the ride. The bikes will have back-racks and the guides have extra space in their bags if you need to bring anything with you during the ride.
What is included in the price? Unless otherwise specified, most trips include bikes, helmets, bottles of water, and other necessary amenities (i.e.- rain ponchos on wet days). See specific overnight itineraries for additional inclusions on Overnight Trips.
What if I want to ride solo? Great! We often have individuals participating in our trips on their own. Our scheduled trips are personable and sociable, and by the end of the ride, people often walk away exchanging contact information. We also have competitive rates for solo riders that desire a private customized experience.
What if there is a problem on the trip? At Latitude, we pride ourselves on our problem solving abilities. All guides carry necessary tools and first-aid kits. And, when in a real pinch, a support staff is just a phone call away. No matter the issue on the trip, we can assure you that you are in good hands.
Do you operate in the winter? Yes, we are up for riding as long as the conditions are safe and we have some brave souls willing to join us! As long as you are dressed properly, riding in the winter can be quite enjoayble. We’ve also gotten pretty good at finding places to stop and warm-up along the way!
Do you rent bikes? Aside from the bikes we provide for customers on our trips, we do not rent bikes for riding on your own. We solely do bike tours and bike trips.
Should I tip my guide? If you feel that the guide(s) went above and beyond to give you a unique and memorable experience, feel free to show your appreciation by tipping.
