Upstate New York & Western Mass
Follow your meal, from a table in brooklyn to a farm upstate!
Follow one meal from a table in Brooklyn to its origins on the farm, on this experiential ride that includes an overnight stay at the farm itself in beautiful Columbia County. This two-day trip follows the Hudson River before heading eastward, through charming upstate towns, eventually leading us into the Berkshires.
Before we set out for the weekend, on the Thursday evening before the trip, participants will have the option to dine in Bushwick's pioneering fresh food restaurant, Northeast Kingdom. This charming little hideaway has been at the heart of North Brooklyn's hip renaissance since 2005. Members of the group will be treated to a free drink and have the opportunity to sample cuisine from the farm where we will camp on Saturday evening.
During the weekend, we'll pair the peculiar with the extraordinary with visits to one-of-a-kind sculpture parks like OMI, The Circle Museum, and Taconic Sculpture Park, which will finally demystify the big, round head you've been seeing from The Taconic Parkway all these years. We'll also get some time along the vast Hudson River, with spectacular views from the imposing Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Columbia County is home to smaller waterways as well; the charming waterfalls of Valatie & Kinderhook make for great places to take a load off and cool down.
After a day of riding on Saturday, we'll arrive at Northeast Kindom's farm in the early evening with plenty of time for cooling off in the creek, exploring the farm, and relaxing around the campfire. Dinner will include fresh produce from the farm as well local meat & veggies from the grill.
Sunday morning's cowboy coffee & light breakfast will be followed by a trip to what should be called fresh-foodie-heaven, The Hawthorne Valley Farm Store. Later in the day, we'll get off-road for a brief 'poetry hike' where you'll truly come to understand the meaning of burning the candle at both ends. By early afternoon, we'll find ourselves in Western Massachusetts where we'll discover the beauty of the Berkshires, before stopping for a restful afternoon in Great Barrington.
